i've been chairing a search committee for a teaching position and at least 3 applicants used chatgpt to generate their teaching statements.

these are artists and scholars, who already hold MFAs or PhDs, applying to a classroom-focused role where they would directly work with and mentor students, and they generated their *teaching philosophies*.

i can't stop thinking about it. in general i don't give into despair but god. what are we doing here. what do they think the living is for
